Tomkins had West Ham in his blood

One of the worst decisions we've made transfer wise in a long time. He'd be our best centre half by an absolute mile, English, and loved the club.

And yes, some of us did fucking say that at the time.

Having a storming game against Pool. Palace's best player tonight

Re: selling Tomkins was a shit decision
Pretty much all of their fans had him just behind Zaha as the POTY last season.

Yet VEXED still thinks he absolute dogshit. Which should be all the confirmation anyone needs.

Agree. Shocking decision

Re: selling Tomkins was a shit decision
This always puzzled me.

I mean, if we'd got 20 million for him, it would be a different story, but letting him go for 10 was an absolute travesty.

That's chump change.

Obviously West Ham are the chumps.

Re: selling Tomkins was a shit decision
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. He was excellent for us in his first few seasons, but had a bad season and had slipped to fourth choice CB and fill-in RB. i doubt he was happy with that situation himself.

At the time, it was a reasonable decision to sell him in order to free up funds. And he didn't pull up any trees in his first season at Palace. Fair play to the lad for turning it round, but it's about 1.140,156 on my list of disgraceful/shit decisions.

It wasn't chump change for a fourth choice CB at the time. Not so much now.

Was never happy with the sale myself.

Even less happy now, when we really could do with him.

Er, this wasn't hindsight, Surface.

Some of us predicted exactly this would happen, that is NOT hindsight.

Just been having the same conversation.

Re: selling Tomkins was a shit decision
The worst decision we made was not signing Virgil Van Dijk from Groningen when he went to Celtic, or from Celtic when he went to Southampton.

HTH

Tompkins was better.

Re: selling Tomkins was a shit decision
Yeah, mate, and I'm sure you come on here telling us all about the things you predicted wrongly.

You certainly weren't saying much about him in his first season at Palace when he couldn't get in the team in his favoured position or sometimes at all.

Incidentally, Tomkins has never managed more than 31 PL starts at either club, and that's his best by a long way.

Eerie Descent 11:53 Mon Aug 20
Re: selling Tomkins was a shit decision
What's that got to do with anything?

You posted on here something about this being hindsight. It wasn't.

The end.

I wasn't happy when he was sold...just to sign Jose Fonte at a later date

You could name any number of players that other clubs have signed ffs

We had a very good homegrown player on our books, and let him go for peanuts, in a position we've been criminally shit in ever since.

Would have been fine if we'd spent the money on Harry Maguire

Re: selling Tomkins was a shit decision
I’m sure we’ll bring him back again on big wages when he’s old and shit.

SurfaceAgentX2Zero 11:57 Mon Aug 20
Re: selling Tomkins was a shit decision
It's hindsight because you said nothing for two years when he was bang-average at Palace and have suddenly piped up again on the basis of one good game.

And your main point is that is was some kind of horrendous mistake selling him, when clearly it wasn't.
